There have now been six confirmed cases of H1N1 Influenza 09 (Human Swine
Influenza) in Victoria bringing the national total to10 confirmed cases.
All cases are all being treated with anti-viral medication. It is likely
that the number of confirmed cases will increase in coming days and
weeks.

It is both timely and important that all staff and students are kept
informed of what they can do to minimise the risk to themselves and
others
of contracting all forms of influenza. We have recently asked all safety
officers and health and safety representatives to place personal hygiene
information sheets on all notice boards across the University. These
information sheets explain the need for hand washing and cough etiquette
which are both critical to minimise the risk of infection,

Further details on this and other related information can be found on can
be found on http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/ohse/news/swine-flu.html

Above all, it is important that if you exhibit symptoms of influenza you
should contact your doctor; you should not come to university if you are
unwell.

The University has a specialist group who are closely monitoring the
situation and tracking advice from the Department of Human Services, The
Department of Health and Ageing and the World Health Organisation. Any
changes will be notified through the Global Emails and for this reason
you
should monitor your university email inbox regularly.
